The King County Council yesterday unanimously approved Cheryle Broom as auditor. Broom, who replaces the retiring Don Eklund, will serve a four-year term.
Broom had most recently served as first deputy inspector general of the New York State Metropolitan Transportation Authority. She also has worked as legislative auditor for the Washington State Joint Legislative Review and Audit Committee.
Councilman Pete von Reichbauer, R-Federal Way, said the auditor's job is one of the most critical positions in King County government. The auditor must make certain that council laws and policies are being followed.
