A Teamster alliance at Columbia Distributors

Drivers and warehouse workers at Columbia Distributors voted to join forces with the Teamsters union to negotiate a new labor contract, the union said last week.

Employees at the Renton-based company voted 84-76 in favor of linking up with Teamsters Local 174, said Anthony Murrietta, president of the local.

Murrietta said the two sides will start talking immediately.

Meanwhile, the National Labor Relations Board will hold a hearing on a possible union vote at Western Washington Beverage on Sept. 6, the union said.

TRANSACTIONS

Sunbelt Rentals, a Charlotte, N.C.-based equipment rental company, has acquired the assets and four retail outlets of Super Rent in Woodinville, North Bend and Redmond for an undisclosed sum.... Vancouver, Wash.-based CTS Language Link has acquired Intex Translations and Audiovisuals of Los Angeles; terms were not disclosed.

Banorte Asset Management, an investment affiliate of Grupo Financiero Banorte, a leading financial group in Mexico, has opened a branch office in Seattle.... Structural and civil engineering firm Reid Middleton has opened a branch office in downtown Everett.... Tatum CFO Partners, a Tustin, Calif., company that provides permanent, interim or project chief financial officers, has opened an office in Seattle.

SHIPPING NEWS

Vessels due to arrive at the Port of Seattle today, according to the Marine Exchange of Puget Sound, include Santa Cruz, from Vancouver, B.C., at Terminal 18, and Vladivostok, from Oakland, at Terminal 5-North. Due tomorrow are CSL Cabo, from Plumper Sound, at James Hardie Terminal; Kapitan Maslov, from Los Angeles, at Terminal 5, and Westwood Marianne, from Tokyo, at Terminal 5.

New top officer

  • Quadrant Corp., the real estate subsidiary of Federal Way-based Weyerhaeuser Co., has named Susan Heikkala senior vice president and general manager to oversee the company's Redmond Ridge planned community. She had been with Spieker Properties.
