Seattle's downtown public library reopens Saturday in its temporary home at the Convention Center.
The Temporary Central Library, at 800 Pike St., will open at 11 a.m. following a walking parade, featuring stilt walkers, lion dancers, team mascots, clowns and the public, from Westlake Center to the site. The parade, led by Mayor Paul Schell and City Librarian Deborah Jacobs, will begin at 10:30 a.m.
Opening day activities will include prize drawings at 1, 2 and 3 p.m., a series of free performances on an outdoor stage on Eighth Avenue between Pike and Pine streets, including a 12:15 p.m. show by children's performer Tim Noah, and appearances by local authors.
The downtown library will be housed in its temporary quarters until the new Central Library being designed by architect Rem Koolhaas is completed in 2003.
